Jessica Barton and Marilee Griffin joined the UF Health Cancer Center family in 2016, both coming from within the larger UF Health Communications team. Together, they are responsible for providing media relations, marketing, public relations and communications services for center initiatives. This communications duo serves members, patients and the public in sharing information about UF Health cancer care and research, and is the point of first contact for media representatives seeking expert sources for cancer-related topics. The office is also responsible for strategic communications and marketing planning, internal communications and community outreach activities.

Jessica and Marilee specialize in the following areas and offer related communications support to UF Health Cancer Center members:

  • Maintains content for UFHealth.org/cancer
  • Creates marketing initiatives to drive business to outpatient and inpatient practices for oncology
  • Collaborates with Business Development
  • Coordinates marketing for community events
  • Creates print collateral for materials for consumers, physicians and recruitment
  • Serves as day-to-day contact for affiliates, including Orlando Health and Tallahassee Memorial
  • Oversees integrity of the brand; assures consistency in usage across departments
  • Clinical trials — referring physicians
  • Social media

  • Maintains the website Cancer.ufl.edu
  • Writes news releases and establishes relationships with local, state and national media
  • Edits the patient magazine
  • Creates internal e-newsletter(s)
  • Media relations — escorts media on campus for interviews and events
  • Coordinates media events such as press conferences and tours; assists with other event communication
  • Responsible for internal communications to UFHCC faculty and staff
  • Clinical trials communications — research news
  • Event communications
  • Social media
