The Preston A. Wells, Jr. Center for Brain Tumor Therapy team had an impressive showing at the 2017 Society for Neuro-Oncology (SNO) meeting in San Francisco, California, held Nov. 16-19.
Assistant professor Loic Deleyrolle, Ph.D., and postdoctoral fellow Lan Hoang-Minh, Ph.D., received a Top 5 Poster award — selected from hundreds of presented posters at the conference — for their research on metabolic heterogeneity and targeting of slow-cycling cancer stem cells in glioblastoma. Madeleine Turcotte, M.S.
UF medical student Madeleine Turcotte, M.S., won an ASH Abstract Achievement Award this month for her abstract titled “Personalized Therapy Design for Early T-Cell Precursor Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.” In December, she will present on acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Leylah Drusbosky, Ph.D., research assistant professor, is her co-mentor.

Atif Iqbal, M.D., an assistant professor of surgery in the UF College of Medicine, was appointed to the Colon Task Force (TF) of the NCI Gastrointestinal Steering Committee as an NRG representative.
Susmita Datta, Ph.D.
Susmita Datta, Ph.D., a professor in the department of biostatistics, spoke at the ASA’s 2017 Women in Statistics and Data Science Conference, Oct. 19-Oct. 21. The conference gathers nearly 400 early-, middle- and late-career researchers, practitioners, scientists and government officials to celebrate the significant contributions of women and address professional, personal, academic and business challenges.

Duane Mitchell, M.D., Ph.D. and his team were approved for funding for their 2017 Translational Award application, “Selective expansion of neoantigen-specific T cells targeting medulloblastoma.” The Translational Research Award, presented by The V Foundation for Cancer Research, is a $600,000 grant awarded in three annual installments of $200,000.
