Affiliation with National Cancer Institute makes novel cancer treatments available to patients
The UF Health Cancer Center joined the National Cancer Institute’s Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trial Network, or ETCTN, in December under the leadership of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute. Membership is typically reserved for cancer centers that hold special designation by the NCI and account for only a fraction of centers nationwide; the UF Health Cancer Center is an exception. As a member of the network, the UF Health Cancer Center can give patients access to early phase experimental therapeutic clinical trials. READ MORE
UF Health pediatric oncology patients are first in nation to pilot HealthSteps mobile platform
Benjamin King, CEO of HealthSteps, pondered ways to use digital resources in patient care when his mom received treatment for a brain tumor. While helping to manage her care, King noticed multiple breakdowns in communication among family members, which led to last-minute runs to the pharmacy and uncertainty regarding whether she took her medications. From this experience, he developed HealthSteps. UF Health is the first in the nation to pilot the mobile application, which was created at the Innovation Hub at the University of Florida using UF resources. READ MORE

Last Friday, the Golf Fights Cancer organization donated $50,000 to the UF Health Shands Children’s Hospital Pediatric Hematology/Oncology division, which was the charity selected by the UF Men’s Golf Team. We are grateful for their donation, which will be used toward pediatric solid tumor research among other pediatric cancer initiatives.
The University of Florida has launched a Center for Regenerative Medicine.
The center is led by Keith L. March, M.D., Ph.D., a cardiologist and national leader in regenerative medicine whom the university recently recruited from the Indiana University School of Medicine. READ HERE
