Special Message from the Director
Please allocate center IDC to the Cancer Center

Jonathan Licht, M.D. is the director of the UF Health Cancer Center, holding the Marshall E. Rinker, Sr. Foundation and David B. and Leighan R. Rinker Chair.
Dear Members,
I am writing to ask your support for development of our Cancer Center during a critical year, as we are on track for spring 2019 submission to the National Cancer Institute. While we have made great strides in the last few years toward this prestigious and game-changing designation, there remains further work to do.
With this in mind, please allocate all or a portion of your center indirect cost returns to the UF Health Cancer Center (UFHCC). These IDC allocations need to be made before June 30, 2018 to ensure this revenue is included in our next annual distribution.
Center IDCs from cancer-related research are crucial in helping us achieve our goal and provide support for cancer research, clinical trials management, development of team science, graduate student scholarships, travel grants, and shared resources such as core labs and biostatistics.

In 2015-2016, we were able to give out 35 pilot awards and invested $1.96M — which has already generated $3.7M in extramural peer-reviewed funding. In 2015-2017, we were able to give out 20 bridge awards and invested $1.19M — which has already generated $13.9M in extramural peer-reviewed funding. These are prime examples of how your support has allowed us to invest in novel and promising cancer research across the University of Florida.
Ideally, we would ask each Cancer Center member to contribute the full 7.5 percent center IDC to the Cancer Center. Recognizing that many of you have obligations to support other centers as well, we do ask your consideration of at least 3.75 percent center IDC. Several of you to date have not allocated all of the 7.5 percent of IDC that can be dedicated to a center and we would ask that you add any unallocated amount to your Cancer Center contribution.
To update your IDC distributions, please follow these steps and notify us when you have made this change by emailing ResearchAdmin@cancer.ufl.edu. Our center designation is the University of Florida Cancer Center (ID: 10.0562).
Thank you for your support. Please share with us any concerns you may have or ideas for how we could enhance the functioning of our Cancer Center programs and our ability to support your research.
Best regards,
Jon
