Cancer Research Conference for Science Teachers
Successful Inaugural Outreach Event Reached Middle and High School Educators
Cancer Research Conference for Science Teachers
On July 18-19, the University of Florida Health Cancer Center hosted its first annual conference for middle and high school science teachers that highlighted current cancer research and important cancer topics for our catchment area.
The free, two-day conference took place at the University of Florida Cancer and Genetics Research Complex and included a reception at the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art.
The objectives of this conference were for teachers to:
- Learn about cancer research being conducted at UFHCC
- Gain a better understanding of the biological processes involved in cancer
- Understand cancer risk facts and the broad concepts of how lifestyle changes will reduce cancer risks
Participants heard about cutting-edge research taking place at UF and connected with scientists, physicians and students to engage in a dialogue about community health and well-being. The goal was to build relationships with educators in our community to raise awareness and disseminate information about cancer risk and prevention.
Thank you to all of our speakers who took the time to present lectures and participate in discussions with our community educators!
