UF Health Cancer Center Research Day 2018

Description: The UF Health Cancer Center invites you to UFHCC Research Day 2018. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The Keynote Speaker is Ethan Dmitrovsky, M.D., American Cancer Society Professor Laboratory Director of the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research and President of Leidos Biomedical Research.
He previously served as provost and executive vice president as well as the Olga Keith and Harry Carothers Weiss Distinguished University Chair and American Cancer Society Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Before joining MD Anderson, he chaired the Pharmacology and Toxicology Department and was Interim Dean at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. He also served as chair of the Board of Scientific Counselors for Clinical Sciences and Epidemiology for the National Cancer Institute.

Panera Goes Pink
Where: Paneras in North Central Florida
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer
Where: Downtown Gainesville
What: Get out your walking shoes for the 5K that runs pink. The American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk will be held Saturday, Oct. 20 in downtown Gainesville. Last year 22 teams comprised of 430 UF Health employees participated, raising $15,050 for the event. Dollars raised enable the ACS to fund groundbreaking breast cancer research; provide free, comprehensive information and support to those touched by the disease; and help people take steps to reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when it’s most treatable. Levy County Horse Club Trailriders 18th Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Trail Ride
When: Oct. 20
Where: Tidewater Trailhead at Goethe State Forest
What: The Levy County Horse Club Trailriders presents the 18th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Trail Ride. The event will include a poker ride for a minimum donation of $10 per hand. Riders are encouraged to go at their own pace and enjoy being in nature. Lunch will follow and is free for those who are registered or for $8 per non rider. Climb for Cancer Foundation's Halloweener Derby

What: Grab a pup and come join in on the fun at the Halloweener Durby presented by the Climb for Cancer Foundation. The event will include the Dachshund-only race, a pet costume contest, a Trick or Treat Trail Dog Walk for all breeds and The Running of the Chihuahuas! For more information, click here.

What: Join Survivors for Research Inc. for Party on the Patio on Oct. 25th at the Great Outdoors Restaurant in High Springs. All money raised that evening and throughout the month will be donated to the researchers at the UF Health Cancer Center. For more information, click here.
Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off
What: Start pedaling, as we get ready for the 7th annual pink cycling event. Coming on Oct. 28, is the Pink Pumpkin Pedal-Off, a charity bike-ride throughout scenic Gainesville. Riders will have their choice of four different routes: 10-, 22-, 40- or 62.5-miles. All three routes include a tour of the beautiful University of Florida campus, Gainesville’s restored depot and historic areas and the traffic-free Gainesville-Hawthorne Trail.
