Unique Iron Starvation Offers Method to Attack Deadly Bacterial Biofilms
Deadly bacterial biofilms that colonize on surfaces and infect the human body have mystified clinicians and scientists for years. Resistant to many conventional antibiotics, these biofilms result in more than 500,000 deaths a year worldwide. Now researchers at the University of Florida have developed a novel compound that uniquely starves biofilms of iron — a nutrient critical for growth and development. READ MORE
University of Florida Researchers Complete a Preclinical Study Using Tumor Derived RNA Nanoparticle
Researchers at the University of Florida College of Medicine department of otolaryngology examined the anti-tumor activity of tumor-derived RNA nanoparticles in an oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma murine model. The research was conducted in collaboration with Elias Sayour, M.D, Ph.D., in the UF Brain Tumor Immunotherapy Program. The results were presented at the American Association for Cancer Research meeting in November 2018. READ MORE

The UF Health Cancer Center is excited to announce a new Certificate Program in Cancer: Biology, Epidemiology and Outcomes.
This nine-credit program is designed to meet the educational needs of students and health care professionals interested in gaining a fundamental understanding of cancer biology, cancer risks and prevention activities, as well as the management of cancer and its impact on health outcomes. Individuals who may benefit from this program include those new to the oncology field and those who want to complement their existing studies with enhanced knowledge of oncology.
