Catherine Striley, Ph.D., MSW, ACSW, MPE, was elected to represent the department of epidemiology on UF’s Faculty Senate. The Faculty Senate is the legislative body of UF and provides a forum for the mutual exchange of ideas between senior officers and faculty.

Chengguo Xing, Ph.D., received a 2020 Pilot Grant Program award for $150,000 from Lung Cancer Research Foundation for his study titled, “Contributions of tobacco exposure, NNK, and stress to lung cancer risk disparities between AA and CA male smokers.”
Julie Johnson, Pharm.D.
Julie Johnson, Pharm.D., was elected to the AAAS Section on Pharmaceutical Sciences for significant discoveries in cardiovascular drug pharmacogenomics, and for advancing use of genetic data in clinical practice to improve clinical outcomes with drug therapy.
Thomas D. Schmittgen, Ph.D.
Thomas D Schmittgen, Ph.D., was elected to the AAAS Section on Pharmaceutical Sciences for distinguished contributions to the field of microRNA biology, particularly using real time PCR to quantify microRNA expression in tissues, extracellular vesicles, cell lines and tumors.

Juan Hincapie-Castillo, Ph.D., Pharm.D., M.S., received the 2020 Emerging Leader Award from the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology, or ISPE. The award recognizes ISPE members who have shown, early in their careers, the potential for leadership and have already made significant contributions to the society.

Christian Jobin, Ph.D., presented at the UF Eye Opener Discovery Breakfasts, the Pelotonia Institute for Immuno-Oncology 2nd symposium, the 7th Digestive Disease Week of Guangzhou, the Asian Organization for Crohn’s and Colitis, Tulane Neurology Grand Rounds and the Tumor Biology Research Program’s Distinguished Lecture Series. Dr. Jobin was also appointed to the External Advisory Board for the Program for Innovative Microbiome and Translational Research (PRIME-TR) MD Anderson, Texas.

Linda B. Cottler, Ph.D., MPH, FACE, has been named president-elect of the Association for Clinical and Translational Science, or ACTS. Her term as president will begin in April 2022.
