UF launches new state-of-the-art neuro-oncology lab
Top brain cancer researchers and University of Florida leaders unveiled a new, world-class neuro-oncology laboratory at UF’s Basic Science Building on July 24.
The new facility, named the Adam Michael Rosen Neuro-Oncology Laboratories, provides an innovative workspace and the best and latest equipment to the team of Duane Mitchell, M.D., Ph.D., co-director of UF’s Preston A. Wells Jr. Center for Brain Tumor Therapy, focused on stimulating immune responses against malignant brain tumor cells. READ MORE
Researchers to study mechanisms driving uveal melanoma spread to liver, thanks to $3.95M NIH grant
Researchers at the University of Florida Health Cancer Center, the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center and Moffitt Cancer Center received a five-year, $3.95 million NIH grant to study how uveal melanoma spreads to the liver. This work was previously supported by a Florida Academic Cancer Center Alliance (FACCA) pilot and two Florida Department of Health Biomedical Research Program Bankhead-Coley grants. READ MORE
UF Radiation Oncology First to Employ AI-Assisted MRCAT Brain Cancer Treatment Planning Tech. in US
After recent FDA approval of the use of the Philips MR-only radiotherapy simulator, or MRCAT, for treatment planning related to primary and metastatic tumors in the brain, the University of Florida Department of Radiation Oncology will be the first to offer its technology in the United States. Study Aiming to Predict Cardiac Risk in Breast Cancer Patients Supported by FLBC Foundation Grant
Thanks to modern chemotherapy, gene-targeted therapy, and radiation therapy, there are now over 3.5 million breast cancer survivors in the United States. Each of these treatments, however, may carry an increased risk for major cardiac events and early cardiac death. READ MORE
